darjeeling peace

and i do dare declare:

this delectable cup of Darjeeling knows intimacy too

holding a full-bodied warmth, sharing relaxing aroma, showing seductive tufts of gently curling steam—

bringing them together before my cool hands in a warming apartment

resting

in wait

shedding that which it need not carry,

letting go

of the heat that only served it in the steeping season…

and though my fingers are cool, they

do not linger along the hot mug

past their warm welcome;

they do not take

without acknowledging that taking space is part of the joy of it all

this cup of Darjeeling, they know, is best after some time:

if it is too hot to touch, it is too hot to drink.

and one need know neither Fahrenheit nor Celsius to learn

patience

timing

& other simple wisdoms

of enjoying intimacy
